So much potential for this young group but wonder if we have the right coach. The drop off in the second half of the season is beyond reason and Getzlaf having to retire while the team tanks is just a sorry state of affairs. Management has to change.

I was really surprised at this news at first, but after thinking about it, it probably means the guy Verbeek wants might not be available until next year. Plus, it's not like he re-signed him, they just okayed the option in Eakins' contract. Plus, if the Ducks really sh!t the bed next year, they have Goeff Ward or Newell Brown to fill out the season.
Unfortunately, I think this means there aren't going to be any major additions to the team next year. They'll add enough to get to the cap floor and they'll be playing to a half-full Honda Center, BUT, this also means we SHOULD get a full year of Mason McTavish next year!

The more I thought about it.. I'm actually ok with the swarm for another yr.. he really hasn't had a full season that wasn't impacted significantly with issues... And I don't see a real viable upgrade out there.

Verbeek I think is going to be more aggressive than people imagine in FA and trade.

I envision a scenario of him packing picks and players for Chychrun and Crouse in a massive deal. Or something along those lines.

As for McTavish there is no other place for him next yr but Ducks... Wish people would understand that. He owns Jr can't play in the A ... and is too good for it anyway...

The only thing I've disagreed with Verbeek about is playing kids in the minors until they're tearing it up down there. You learn nothing playing against inferior players. Since McTavish can't go to the Gulls (BTW, they NEED to change this rule or make an exception for certain players), he has to be with the Ducks next year. Sending him back to junior is a massive waste of his development.
